Nightshift is the 11th studio album by American funk and R&B band Commodores, released on January 15, 1985, by Motown Records. This album marked a significant transition for the group, being their first full-length release without Lionel Richie, who had departed in 1982. The Commodores introduced British-born J.D. Nicholas as their new lead vocalist, replacing Richie. Produced by Dennis Lambert, Nightshift blends funk, synth-pop, new wave, R&B, and progressive pop elements.
