"Outside" is David Bowie's 20th studio album. Brian Eno, who previously supported Bowie on the Berlin Trilogy, returns.
Subtitled "The Ritual Art Murder of Baby Grace Blue: A Non-Linear Gothic Drama Hyper-Cycle," the album revolves around the characters of a dystopian world on the eve of the 21st century. The album brought Bowie back to the mainstream rock scene with the singles "The Hearts Filthy Lesson," "Strangers When We Meet," and "Hallo Spaceboy" (remixed by the Pet Shop Boys).
A writer for Time Out magazine wrote: "[The] edifice of sounds, cultures, rhythms, samples and textures, with random lyrics that don't tell a story so much as create a mood, offers the open-minded listener Bowie's best album in 15 years."
"Outside" reached the highest position worldwide, reaching number 8 in the UK, but only reached number 33 in Germany.
