Taylor Swift - Evermore

A consummate, hour-long collection of songs in muted, earthy tones: acoustic guitars played with fingers, pianos playing lurching, melancholic figures (the track "Tolerate It" vaguely recalls the Smiths' "Asleep"), electric guitars on the verge of overdrive, warm, washy synths, and mandolin.

Evermore effectively continues the work that folklore began, moving Swift away from mainstream pop into more alt-rock waters. It's a smoother, less forced transition than perhaps some of her peers make.
