Rosalía's album LUX, released on November 7, 2025, is considered her most ambitious and artistically radical work to date. Recorded in various international locations between 2023 and 2025, the album marks a significant stylistic shift: instead of the urban influences that characterized her earlier work, LUX focuses on a blend of orchestral music, art pop, classical composition, and avant-garde elements. Thematically, Rosalía explores spirituality, transcendence, female saints, and mystical topics. A unique feature of the album is that the individual tracks are written and sung in a total of fourteen languages—including Spanish, Catalan, English, Latin, Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, and Mandarin. Rosalía collaborated with linguists, translators, and vocal coaches to ensure the precise and musical integration of these diverse languages.
Musically, the album is conceived as a four-part work, similar to a classical suite or oratorio, with some pieces structured almost like arias. The physical version comprises 18 songs, while the digital version contains 15 tracks – three of which are exclusive to vinyl or CD. Among the contributors are renowned artists such as Björk, Yves Tumor, Carminho, Estrella Morente, and Silvia Pérez Cruz, as well as large orchestral ensembles, including the London Symphony Orchestra. The first single, "Berghain," an unusual collaboration with Björk and Yves Tumor, hinted at the album's aesthetic direction: a blend of sacred atmosphere, experimental soundscapes, and emotional intensity.
LUX has been critically acclaimed as exceptionally ambitious. Many media outlets have described it as a spiritual, artful work that transcends mainstream pop conventions and ushers Rosalía into a new artistic phase. The album was also a huge commercial success: within the first 24 hours of its release, it achieved record streaming numbers and became the most-streamed album by a Spanish-language female artist on Spotify in a single day. For many, LUX is therefore considered a turning point – less a continuation of the pop star Rosalía, but rather a statement from an artist who consciously pushes boundaries, connects cultures, and opens up new musical spaces.
