"Getz/Gilberto," the bossa nova classic by Stan Getz, João, and Astrud Gilberto, is one of the most famous Verve albums and one of the best-selling jazz LPs of all time.
Sometimes chance writes the most beautiful stories. As in the case of "Getz/Gilberto." Astrud Gilberto had actually only accompanied her husband João Gilberto to the recording sessions as an interpreter.
But then Stan Getz had Astrud, even though she wasn't a professional singer, sing the songs "The Girl From Ipanema" and "Corcovado." The album, which also featured Jobim and drumming legend Milton Banana, became a worldwide hit and was the first jazz production ever to win the Grammy for Best Album of the Year.
